If we can raise the support needed then we will shortly be looking at raising the floor in the church and replacing it with something more in keeping with a medieval building.
We are also hoping to get the roof timbers dendro dated.
The churchyard moves forward; we have a volunteer now who will oversee it, Mrs Pat Hooson; Pat will always be known as the person who initiated the painting of the iron railings in the churchyard and her remit is to make it more comfortable for the residents. We have still many more challenges to go, not the least of which is the provision of a toilet and to connect to mains electricity; the use of the portable generator is expensive and inconvenient.
The expansion of activities in the church has brought about a problem with the storage of equipment and resources. The erection of a wooden store is planned near to the rear of the bier house.
A direct contribution to the church that Mike Cousins made in 2008 was to oversee the laying of some slate slabs outside the front door.
Evan’s Book has continued to sell; it is nice to report that we now have a return for the investment that we put into publishing the book, get in touch if you want a copy. We have several other books in the system that we would like to publish / republish, but the publication of these will depend on finance and available time. We still have lots of Tea Towels, why not push the boat out and send in an order. Ken Smith still spends a lot of time putting stones on top of each other and Peter Hutton has completed the replacement of the window furniture.
The Friends are fully involved in the project, “Sacred Doorways”, the Rural Conwy Churches Trail, a scheme sponsored by Conwy County Borough Council to tell the public more about the old Churches of the Conwy valley.
Yes the in-tray is very full; in fact it has had a major overflow! The research of the family social history of Capel Curig is a huge field to get into. The future progress of the project is largely dependant on the enthusiasm and support of the Friends. From past response this has always been generously given and the committee thanks all who have contributed to what is there today. Remember it is the Friends who are involved; a relaxed friendly group, in it to contribute, to learn and perhaps for the fun!
